Did you know that in 402 days from today, you will no longer be able to get television programs without Cable, Satellite, or a Set-Top Box? Tens of millions of TV sets will go dark in February of 2009.You may be wondering why the Federal Government is about to turn off your TV. The usual reason, Money. The FCC is going to auction off 700 MHz of spectrum that they are going to take a way from over-the air broadcasters. On the upside the Government is giving out free coupons for $40 to those that they fell are qualified to get some of your hard earned Tax Dollars. The FCC doesn't event agree with themselves if this is a good idea. TV going dark is actually a good thing, then more people will support their local library. Turn off the tube and read a book... I think that the explanation here is rather simplistic. TV will still be available over the air, just in a different form: ATSC (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atsc). You may need a cheap converter so your old television will read this signal (which is available now, by the way), but newer televisions are ATSC capable and the signal is much clearer than old style NTSC due to its digital nature. This posting is not giving the full picture. Z.
