Exploding/Magic Smoke Resistors now available off-the-shelf

By BobP at 01/12/08 08:53
Vishay has come out with a new product line known as the Electro-Pyrotechnic Initiator Chip Resistor (EPIC), that is designed to go up in flames.

" Vishay's New Electro-Pyrotechnic Initiator Chip Resistor is Industry's First to Offer Joule Effect Ignition For Fast Firing Times Down to 50 microseconds, and a No Fire/All Fire Ratio up to 70%

These devices are used in military applications for pilot ejection systems, explosive bolt disengagement of airbone missiles, chaff dispensers, artillery projectile activators, anti-tank mines, etc. Commercially, they are used in mining and de-constructions applications."

Think of the fun the people at Hack A Day or Make Magazine could have with some these.

Anyone that has been around electronic devices for any length of time know that when the devices fail they tend to go up in smoke, leading to the idea that electronic parts are run by Magic Smoke, this part proves that idea.

Federal Government is going to turn off your TV in 2009.

By BobP at 01/12/08 08:32
Did you know that in 402 days from today, you will no longer be able to get television programs without Cable, Satellite, or a Set-Top Box? Tens of millions of TV sets will go dark in February of 2009.

You may be wondering why the Federal Government is about to turn off your TV. The usual reason, Money. The FCC is going to auction off 700 MHz of spectrum that they are going to take a way from over-the air broadcasters.

On the upside the Government is giving out free coupons for $40 to those that they fell are qualified to get some of your hard earned Tax Dollars.

The FCC doesn't event agree with themselves if this is a good idea.

TV going dark is actually a good thing, then more people will support their local library. Turn off the tube and read a book...

Is the Neural Peptide Aspartame causing Autism?

By BobP at 01/12/08 08:00
As a follow up to our last posting, Are new Ultrasonic technologies causing Autism?, I wanted to mention that Aspartame is also mentioned from time to time as a cause of the increase in Autism, and the time line fits as well as the Ultrasound idea.

Did Mom-to-be drinking to much Aspartame, commonly known as Nutrasweet, or giving it to the new baby in some juice or food?

Aspartame is Neural Peptide. Look up "Rumsfeld Disease": "Aspartame - Rumsfeld's Bioweapon Legacy" for one of many.

Are new Ultrasonic technologies causing Autism?

By BobP at 01/05/08 08:56
There are new Ultrasonic based sound systems coming on the market, such as Holosonics's "Audio Spotlight", and similar technology that are summarized here: Sound focusing technologies make recent headlines. Has any of this new technology been tested to see if it is harming our Prenatal Children?

Midwifery Today Issue 80, Winter 2006, goes into detail on issues of if Medical Ultrasounds may be causing damage, to our soon to be children. The article is reprinted here: Questions about Prenatal Ultrasound and the Alarming Increase in Autism by Caroline Rodgers.

When you go for a Prenatal Ultrasound you know exactly what you are doing, and the risks can be explained to you. But if your walking down the sidewalk and you are exposed to Mega Power Ultrasonic Beam Advertisements, is that really a good thing for your baby?

Can you point me to any studies that have been done on this issue? If you can, please E-Mail me. How would you do such a study safely?
